None of the top three Division A teams in the 2024 Telkom Netball League were in action on the final day of the Power-Week 2, meaning that the Free State Crinums top the tournament leaderboard ahead of the tournament finale at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg, on Wednesday, 6 June, 2024.
Second-placed challengers, Gauteng Jaguars were also not in action, and they remain ahead of third-placed Golden Fireballs. The Eastern Cape Comets were also not in action, and their Division B log lead remains intact awaiting the tournament finale.
Of the teams in action to clsoe off the second week’s fixtures, Western Cape Tornados secured a 50-40 victory over the Northern Cape Diamonds to commence action at 8am, and North West Tshukudu dominated against the Limpopo Lilies with a final score of 49-43 in the second match of the day.
KZN Kingdom Stars maintained their pressure on log leaders Comets with a week-ending win over the Free State Sonoblomo in the day’s third encounter, a game marked by a flurry of penalties and missed opportunities.
The fourth match of the day saw the Division A mid-table tussle favouring the Southern Stings with a win against the Eastern Cape Aloes, the final score 60-49.
In the Mpumalanga Sunbirds and the Kingdom Queens fixture, the Sunbirds won against the KZN outfit with a winning score of 58-43, and the North West Flames triumphed over the Limpopo Baobabs with a final score of 52-43 in the final match of the day.
The players that stood out in the second leg of the Telkom Netball League are Aphiwe Thusini of the Kingdom Stars, Kamogelo Maseko of the Gauteng Jaguars, Tamika Baker of the Mpumalanga Sunbirds as well as Entle Futshane of the Western Cape Tornados.
