The Spar Proteas racked up a massive win over Kenya in their opening tie just before the 2024 Africa Netball Cup opening ceremony, as they started their campaign to regain continental honours with intent in Swakopmund, Namibia on Monday, 9 December, 2024.

The tournament consists of two Pools of four nations each playing each other once, before the tournament knock-out fixtures begin on Friday, ahead of the tournament crowning the new African champions on Saturday, 14 December.

The Spar Proteas ran away 74-29 winners over Kenya to record the biggest win of the day for a healthy Pool 1 log lead as they prepare to face the dangerous Malawi Queens at 6pm CAT on Tuesday, and their final group-stage match against 2023 defending champions Zambia at 2pm on Thursday, after a rest day on Wednesday.

Also earning significant wins on Day 1 of the tournament were Kenya in an upset win over Zambia in the day’s first result and 2023 silver medalists Namibia cruising to a healthy win over Eswatini, but the day’s shock result belongs to Zimbabwe, who will still be celebrating edging top African competitors Uganda by a single point to take second place in Pool 2’s overnight log.

Namibia earned Day One top spot in their Pool 2 after seeing through a healthy 58-47 margin win over Eswatini for the host nation to start their tournament on a winning note.

Namibia’s biggest pool-stage challenge will likely come against three-times champs She-Cranes, who finished second to winners South Africa in the tournament’s 2021 edition, and who will be looking to wreak maximum havoc in their remaining two fixtures against hosts Namibia and Eswatini, to position Uganda optimally for the knock-out rounds starting on Friday.
