Having suffered their rained out Saturday’s Pro50 fixture at SuperSport Park the day prior, the Fidelity Titans Ladies wasted no time resuming their Hollywoodbets Pro20 Series campaign at home, comfortably beating visitors the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers by 26 runs (DLS) in Centurion on Sunday, 16 February, 2025.

Having been put in to bat by Badgers skipper Nicolien Janse van Rensburg, the Titans’ captain Robyn Searle continued her free-flowing runs-accumulating form from the day before, hitting 10 boundaries in her 45-ball innings of 55 to set up her team’s batting lineup.

Opener/keeper allrounder Tebogo Macheke made a run-a-ball 8 before Jané Winster had her wicket clean-bowled, but the 50-run partnership in 43 balls that followed between Searle and Anneke Bosch put the game into the home side’s back pocket.

Both Searle and Bosch lost their wickets an over apart, but the Titans middle order coalesced around former Proteas all-rounder Suné Luus, who blasted 29 runs in 19 balls with Bosch, Gandi Jafta and Amogelang Maphangula, taking the Pretoria side to 136/4 in their rain-reduced 18 overs.

Badgers wickets were shared between Winster (2/30) and Khayakazi Mathe (1/30) taking up four overs each, but Janse van Rensburg’s 3 overs costing just 16 runs was the economical contribution of the day.

Set 137 for the win, both Badgers openers Nadine Moodley and Annerie Dercksen lost their wickets early in the reply for nine runs each, Eliz-Mari Marx taking both wickets in her fine innings of 2/11 in three overs.

Badgers captain Janse van Rensburg (29*) and Julia Hoal (20 off 25 balls) looked set to make a match of their reply, but Luus pegged back Howl’s off-stump to end her innings, and before the skipper could make much more of their reply, the rain came down once again, bringing an early end to proceedings.

Having secured a healthy DLS advantage, the Titans were all smiles for their first win of the 2024/25 Hollywoodbets Pro 20 season.

With four fixtures on the road ahead, two of them against the Badgers and the Knights before returning home against the Knights and a final outing against the Lions in Johannesburg, the Titans will be keen to turn their fortunes around in keeping with the sides’ reputation.

The rain was not as kind to the DP World Lions, who suffered a rained-out result against the Knights at Wanderers on Sunday, without a ball bowled in the match.

The Joburg outfit also have four matches remaining in the season, but their sterner opposition include WSB Western Province Women in Cape Town and log leaders Hollywoodbets Dolphins in Durban, before their season-ending home tie against Titans, and will do well to improve on their current third placing in the season’s log standings.
